Summer Blockbusters 2008 ! - Rd 2

Alright guys, here we go for Round 2 of Summer Blockbusters :

The Incredible Hulk

It's LOUD and it's Dynamite... and it's 10 times better than Ang Lee's HULK movie. Definitely worth watching, but it's no Iron Man!

Wanted

What a stupid movie! I know I know Angelina Jolie's hot... but aside from that, it's just a decent B movie to me. It tries to be flashy and stylish... but it failed to get there. Any Michael Bay's movie would kick this piece of 'WANTED' ass.

P.S. Is it really necessary to get that bloody and violence?

Get Smart

It's funny and smart, light and easy. Definitely a nice change from all the action packed LOUD summer blockbusters.    A few surprising cameos... and Anne Hathaway is HOT!!! I dont think she's any less hot than Angie. Definitely worth catching it on DVD if you've already missed it....

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Many of my friends seem to be turned off by the character's look... but I remembered walking out from the 1st Hellboy movie LOVING it! Hellboy 2 does offer a lot more. More action, more interesting creatures, more fantasy, more laughs, cool efx... but dunno why, it just failed to engaged me. I really love what I see, but I wasnt immersed with what's going on.

Sigh... I REALLY wanted to love this movie... maybe it's my mood, or stress or whatever the hell that's going on.    It'll require a 2nd viewing for me to rate this accurately. But guys, go see this and lemme know what you think!

Conclusion:

Round 2 is so much tougher to judge. But I'll have to go with Hellboy 2!

Yes I know what you'd think. I CANT event rate it... but there's a LOT to like and definitely worth watching. Go see it for yourself ya!

YES, it's that time again! I love summer... for all the movie-goers, who wouldn't? This is the time for all the long-awaited power blockbusters to hit the theater! So I've decided to start a thread reviewing those movies. Here's round 1:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Still good... but just not as good. I mean a collaboration from Lucas and Spielberg could never be bad. But Indy does look real old now especially in the very 1st scene. Sigh... can the young guy step up to continue Indy's adventure? I really hope so...

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Better than the 1st one. Lots of cool efx and scenery. Does seem a little long though... and why the hell Azlan doesnt show up earlier and save the world? Why does he have to wait for the girl to find him? Then he starts roaring and save the day...    I still much prefer Spiderwick though...

Kung Fu Panda

OMG it's the BOMB!!! From the story to the animation, characters, dialogue, music etc... it's GREAT! It's funny, it's action packed, it also has a lot of hearts... it's a PERFECT movie!!! I felt so touched and inspired by this movie. If only I could be a part of something that's so great in my mere existence... havent seen an animation this great in a LONG LONG time! Some may argued that it's very Hong Kong-ish. Yes, they maybe right... they use our stuff but they make it so much more...

GRADE : 5 out of 5    WOW!!!

The Happenings

M Night Shyamalan's latest work. This guy is the master of suspense. You could felt the air thickened starting from the very 1st scene. Enjoy it while it's happening... but the ending is a little anti-climatic. Hmm... no twist ending this time around?

GRADE : 4 out of 5

Conclusion:

Round 1 goes to Kung Fu Panda!!! This is THE movie to beat this summer!!! What? You dont like it? It's ok... we're just not friends no more... I just cant have friends who have poor taste!

CLOVERFIELD - A Unique Experience

Walking in without a clear idea on what to expect, except it's some kinda monster movie... and at the end, I was totally entertained and surprised by the experience! I'm not gonna say much guys... but it's nothing you've seen before, and it's definitely worth 80 minutes of your life!

TO NOTE: Those with chronic motion sickness SHOULD consider avoiding it! Usually I get nauseous easily watching shaky camera work... but somehow it didnt bother me one bit in this movie. I think it's the focus the director used or the rests it allows in between exciting episodes.

After the movie, my wife said to me, with a VERY serious and stern look, " If someday the monster attack and we're at different places... promise me we'll both run to safety ok? Dont run home or to each other alright? Cos' we'll definitely find each other in safety! "

I laughed and I laughed non stop. This is SO what I love about you!

24 - Jack Bauer is a VERY SAD man...

So I've just finished 24 Season 6... and the only thought lingering on my mind... Jack Bauer is a VERY sad man.

If you dunno 24... it's your loss. If you haven a believer... maybe it's time to start. I mean for Pete's sake, it's ONLY the BEST TV SHOW for the past few years !

If you do have some time to kill... 24 hours to be exact, PLEASE pick up Season 1 and starts there. Nonono... dont jump in right in the middle as it'll TOTALLY spoil the fun. So far I haven had one person who dont like it... man, woman, boy, girl... If you're in your 3rd hour and still NOT liking it... dude... you need to get yourself checked... nonono... seriously... I mean it.

Oh Jack... you're a SAD SAD Man...

ENCHANTED - Pure Disney Magic!

Do you love animations like Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan etc? Do you love those Disney songs? If the answer is YES, then this is a MUST SEE MOVIE!

It's so rare now to find an animation that touches me like before, or one that allows the characters to sing anymore... what a pity.   So it's such a pleasant surprise to find all that and more in this movie... the whole Disney magic, prince and princess, happily ever after, witches, and YES, the MUSIC!!! It's about time to bring Alan Menken back.... I LOVE HIM !!!

Sshhh... here's a secret... one of my dreams was to write for a Disney animation. There's just so much power and joy and love in those music. Since that'll never happen now... I still hope that someday I'll write for a big musical production.... Gotta keep the dream alive baby!!!

STARDUST - A Great Story Well Told!

If you wanna see a great story well told, with fantasy, love, magic, witches, prince not so charming, princess and hmm... a gay pirate... PLEASE GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It's also a perfect date movie, so bring your love one ya!

PS It'd have been a perfect movie if only Claire Dane wasnt in it. Dunno why... I just CANT like her... and she definitely looks old in this one... days of Romeo & Juliet has long gone. SHIT... cant they find somebody else out of so many other pretty young actresses? What a waste... gee...

MUST SEE TV - Grey's Anatomy

I'm a sucker for US drama series... dunno why... maybe in some ways it brought me back to my days in US... or maybe it's just so fucking DAMN good! So here comes my very 1st MUST SEE recommendation: Grey's Anatomy.

A friend told me, if you only have time for one TV show, pick THIS! That's how fucking GREAT it is!

If you're looking for sex + love + friendship + family + career + sex = It's there!

If you're looking to laugh + cry OR to be touched + overwhelmed = It's there!

If you're looking for cool storyline + unexpected twists + beautiful people = It's there!

If you're a guy, a girl or something in between = You'll love it!

If you're young, old, or somewhere in between = You'll love it!

I think I've said enough. So please go get your DVD and start watching from Season 1 will ya? If you DONT like it, bring your DVD set to me and I'll personally smack you in the head with it !!!

Japanese Drama & Me - 求婚大作戰 !!!

I like a lot of things.... BUT one thing that I LOVE is Japanese Drama. I dunno why but it just has that certain magic that touches me. The very 1st japanese drama that I watched was GTO. It made me laugh and cry like a little baby... yup and since then... I'm addicted. I love that how they always have some kind of message or philosophy behind it... and it's always simple things in life that I could easily relate to... love... friendship... career.

So, here's my very first recommendation: 求婚大作戰 !!!

It made me realized that finding the right person... and marrying the one you love is harder than you think. So many things have to go right for it to happen... being at the right place, saying the right words, at the right time, making the right decisions... I mean so many things could have gone wrong in the process... one moment of hesitation could have steered you away from the happiness that you seek.

If I didnt come back to Malaysia... if I didnt move to KL... if I didnt apply the job at that school... I wouldnt have met HER. If I didnt get the courage to ask her out,.. or if I had given up when she ask me to... we wouldnt have been together... It just made me appreciate and cherish this relationship even MORE.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... Appreciate life and try not to leave too many regrets! Halleluya Chance !!!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Just came back from this movie. I have to say, it's the BEST movie I've seen in months! It's DA BOMB!!!

YES, I'm a BIG Harry Potter fan, thanks to my roommate Jeff. Honestly, the 5th book in the series is just OK to me. But for the 1st time, I felt that the movie has outdone the book. I was so touched as they're doing almost everything right. So much HEART was put into it !!!

Havent been this excited about a movie in a WHILE.... now I just cant wait for the new book to come out... 3 more days and counting down...
