I'm excited!!! I've got my very first local production out on air now. Regardless of what others said, I love the results of the collaboration!

His name is Danny 温力铭. A catchy melody hook, a groovy beat, lots of designed surprises, and a strong message! Check it out y'all!

Flying to Taiwan...

Well... it's been quite a while since I update this blog. Sorry as my schedule has been a little crazy lately...

Will be flying to Taiwan later this afternoon. Very excited as I'll be recording Yida. Been wanting to work with him since he debuted and now I finally get the chance. The opportunity is not easy to come by... and it's definitely an important one for me. Will do my best... and hopefully my best is good enough... so wish me luck ya.

Quite a few ppl told me that they cant quite figure out the lyrics of my latest work, <好听的歌>. So I thought I'll post the whole lyrics here. I do think Kit pronounced the best he could, but due to the speed and lower register, it may not stood out as clear. Let's hope it wont stop y'all from loving this song!

Just came back from the press conference of my artist, 张起政. And it also marked the premiere of <好听的歌>, a song written, produced and arranged by me.

During the listening session, I saw some smiles, some nods, and some blank expression from the press... but regardless of what they think or how the song received by the audience later, I do honestly think it is my best work to date. Musically, a lot of fun, a lot of twists, a lot of surprises were packed into this one song. But of course, that doesnt necessary equals to commercial success... All I hope for is that it'll bring a smile on your face.

So drop me a few lines after you heard it will ya? Let me know what you think... love it, hate it, or whatever you have in mind...

But at the meantime... let me Rock N Roll out... 好听的歌... 好听的歌... 好听的歌... 好听的歌.........

Appreciation

Lately it seems, quite a few opportunities opened up to me musically. It may not necessary all come true, but I certainly appreciate it.

Even though I'm excited about it all, but I certainly do have some concern. Things have been going S... L... O... W... much slower than I planned. Sometimes I felt like I cant get the support that I need.

Me a slow worker... needs time to digest and think and plan. I'm not like other musician ie NaiKong, whom I heard could crank out a song in a couple hours. Nevertheless, I gotta gambate... for myself, and for my family.

When opportunities come knocking, I'll take it and shove it up their ass! 加油加油加油 !

想哭 - Feel like Crying

Today we're at Melaka attending my wife's best friend's wedding. We decided to stop by Mahkota Parade before heading home. And what a coincidence... a friend's artist, W.H.Y. - a girlband who just released an album was having a promotion showcase. So we decided to hang around to support them. But towards the end, tears rolled up in my eyes...

For starter, there were not a single "fan" there... the audience are all curious mall shoppers. During the performance, the crowd gave acceptable lukewarm response. But as soon as the host began to promote the CD for autograph signing, the crowd disperse quickly and in the end, I think they sold 1 CD. The autograph session was cancelled. The ONLY person who bought the CD was escorted to backstage for signature signing.

Sitting there, I was speechless. SAD... very SAD indeed. As someone who kinda in this industry, I can truly relate and feel for them. It's a huge blow to the promotion team... it's a huge blow to the artists' confidence. Decent music + decent performance... and... this.

It's SAD and I started to worry about the future of my own artist... how's he gonna fare? I worry about me... if I'd be able to do what I LOVE down the road... It's SAD that this is the reality of the industry I'm in.

想哭... I really feel like crying... cant even quite figure out exactly what emotions I'm feeling right now... GAMBATE!!!

Today I was interviewed about the whole BUDDY split up thing... and it definitely stir up some emotions.

The Truth is, it Hurts!

It hurts that your decision wasnt brought up and discussed with us, the ones who first pushed you to where you are today.
It hurts that the decision was informed by the parents to the boss, and we're the last to know.
It hurts that you left things the way you feel like, without considering for others.

The Truth is, it's Disappointing!

It's disappointing that you didnt own up to the responsibilities you signed up for.
It's disappointing that you gave a lot of excuses, but never admit to the real reasons you left.
It's disappointing that you didnt even say a proper goodbye.

It's OK to be selfish! Just cut the act, be a man and own up to it! I really cant stand the "I Want World Peace" kinda answer. While I whole-heartedly support your noble goal, but your timing is lousy... and things could have been handled way better.

Still, I wish you success... but things will have to change drastically if you were to survive in the other playground.

Most Lessons Arent Taught in School !

PETRONAS COMMERCIAL

When I first came back from the States, I initially wanted to work in Singapore, or Taiwan. But SARS was serious then. So I came up to KL, took my demo tape shopping around for work. Jingle House, production studios, music schools... with not much success.

One of the many bosses that interviewed me, Zaid took a liking in my music, called me up and said he got a gig for me. I went to his studio at 7pm. Saw a cut of a commercial, wrote, arranged, and finished at 3am. Went home, slept, got up and ready for presentations to the producers/directors at 2pm.

My boss was freaking nervous. He told me we were to meet with the Royalties of Malaysia film industry and that I should be prepared for the worst. I was then so used to working w/ the biggest stars in Hollywood, I did not fret at all.

I was introduced to a few ppl, among them is famed director, Yasmin Ahmad. Exhanged a few words, showed them the video "oh... it's kinda like Marc Shaiman". They liked it. After the meeting, I had a brief chat with Yasmin, I really didnt know anything bout her back then. And that's THAT!

Anyway, here's that commercial. Now that I listened back to it, it wasnt that great and they took out my music at the 1st half (Forrest Gump kinda theme). Nevertheless, it was a GOOD commercial. The message and picture was powerful !

Ai Xin Nian Theme Song - 爱。团圆

The 7th day of 2008, my 1st work of the year premiered today on AiFM. It's the theme song for their upcoming event and of course, the upcoming chinese new year.

It's been quite a challenge for me as it's my 1st too, but I'm quite happy with the end result as much thought had been put into it. Thanks to my music team, Guo Quan & Pei Ling for the wonderful lyrics, Wen Hao for the solid arrangement, and of course my dear bunch of singers who successfully spread the New Year joy thru the song. It wouldnt have happened without all of you!

Conclusion, It's decent... it's fun... and worth a listen. So wat you waiting for? Check out AiFM ya!

P.S. It does feel good to have something completed so early in the year. 2008, I'm HERE with a vengeance !!!

Music Darling Holiday Camp

For 4 days and 3 nights, I was back to my old college, INTI College, for the Music Darling Holiday Camp we organized. It's a weird feeling going back to campus, living in its dorm and eating its cafeteria food. I'm fortunate I supposed... I dont think any other job would have allowed me an opportunity like this.

For days, I spent time with young music lovers... some with big dreams... some with passion to learn... some with curiosity to explore... or some who just wanna break free from their own shell. I hope I've done enough to help them... I hope I've done enough to guide them... I really hope they all walked away with something special, something significant that they could later look back on and smile.

Much tears were shed on the last day... way beyond my control. Blame it on stupid me who wanted a sentimental finish. Blame it on stupid me who wanted that soft music at the background... or I could blame it on all the kind and touching words that you all wrote bout me...

Though I seriously doubt you'll be reading this... but THANKS guys, it's been truly fun and amazing. I hope you all feel the same way!!!

AiFM & Me

People that knew me probably knew about my relationship with AiFM... it all started because of my artists BUDDY, then followed by many project collaborations... till now, I'm just plain HAPPY to be on air.

Thanks to AiFM, I got my first exposure as a musician. And Thanks to AiFM, I was introduced to a lot of wonderful ppl, many of them whom I'd call friends today. I remembered the very 1st project... I was f*&ing nervous while waiting to record them DJs. Being in an unfamiliar studio, working with complete strangers... it does make me feel VERY uncomfortable. But as soon as they arrived... BiZhi, YuQing, XiaoMan, LiJing, ZiShan, LiLin, JingChuan, BiaoMin, PeiYing, GuoJun, XiaoFen (I hope that's all ), they sucked away all the nervousness in the air... and turned it into a party.

Now, I've worked with almost all of them and truly had a blast. Dunno why, but I think we're kinda on the same channel so to speak. And it's really weird that I'll even run into them once a month in different places... McDs, malls, cinemas... coincidence? yeah maybe.

Nevertheless, there's been a LOT of coming and going since the beginning... some of them I still see often while some of them I havent spoken to in ages... but I wish all of us well. Gambate ne!

MUSIC SPIRIT 音乐精灵 FINALE

Finally it's over! Been trying to write something about it... but just cant seem to find the words.

Standing on the stage the moment it was over, I didnt feel the overwhelming emotions like my last concert. It was a different kinda feelings... 欣慰 + 感动. Everywhere I saw were happy faces with tears running wild. What MORE could I ask for?

3 1/2 month journey, and frankly it wasnt easy. But everyone gave their all and put on a solid show. What MORE could I ask for?

The response from the crowd thru out and after was encouraging. Many were pleasantly surprised... nobody expect to see a show like ours. Of course it wasnt perfect... BUT they could see the ideas, thoughts and hard work put behind it. The message we're trying to convey was received. What MORE could I ask for?

Since the beginning, all I've wanted is for it to mean something to everyone... and only thru hardwork, blood and tears shall one truly find it!!!

THANK YOU everyone who've been accompany me in this incredible journey... It's been fun and I'd forever cherish it!

PLEASE Keep this PASSION and DREAM ALIVE!!!

Keeping this blog thing is just tougher than it looks. I promised myself to update it at least once a week... and sigh... So where have I been?

BUSY!!! Busy with our school's charity concert. Check out the poster attached. We're milking this concert as much as we could... and it's getting bigger... much BIGGER than what I initially thought. There are cool stories in our mini musicals... interesting costume... VERY cool music spirits, the theme song... the poster and the brochure looks nice... we even have camera crew onboard now... have projectors going... and a COOL MV... YES... Music Video ! And we get to be on radio, TV shows to promote it... (saw myself on TV interview for the 1st time... I looked like shit... but I did get better looking as time passed haha ) Sounds interesting... hell yeah. Sounds like shit lot of work... hell yeah!!!

I am ONLY a musician... that happen to have a few ideas. Not a script writer, not a costume designer, not a choreographer, not a director, not a lighting guy, not an art guy, but hell I'm butting my head in everything, of course with the help of many enthusiastic and capable crew and students. None of us are true professional... but we sure are working our butt out to make this concert DA BOMB!!!

10 more days to go guys... there have been a lot of ups and downs... but let's rush to the finish line proudly! Thanks for the tremendous amount of help... and I hope you guys enjoy our journey together... GAMBATE !!!

Finding Your True Color

It's been quite hectic at work... I guess it does take a toll on me... even affect my sleep at night. That's not good... Three more weeks to our Anniversary Charity Concert and I find that only thru work, you could truly see what a person is made of.

There are those who emerge as true leader, and those who'll always be a follower. There are those who're all talk, and those who work hard. There are those who're independent, and those who need a push every little step they take. There are those who enjoy the journey even when they only have a small role, and those who'll try to piss on the team. There are those who truly surprise me, and of course those who are downright useless.

So which group do YOU belong ?

Yes, it may only be a small concert... but it's more like a test of character to me. In my work, I met many who have big dreams, or at least they claim to be. But do you have what it takes? The LOVE of music, the knowledge, the spirit of teamwork, the hardwork and sacrifice, the courage to face challenge etc... If you cant or wont give it your best in something that you CHOOSE to commit to, I really doubt you can handle the responsibility of that dream of yours.

Thanks to those who have been a great help... and a great sport. How I wish there are more of you. 3 more weeks to go, GAMBATE ne!!!

My Music Work

Just thought I compile what I've done so far and post it here. Not really much now but hopefully I'll be adding more and more.

BUT the problem is, I dont really know how to sell myself... it's a little weird trying to convince people how good you are or how good you can be. Sigh... Me gotta learn, gotta learn to play the game... see my philosophy is, "People Help People who Help Themselves". The least I could do is to Help Myself.

My Record Plant Days - Part 1

A big chunk of my life in US was spent @ Record Plant recording studios, Los Angeles. After graduating college, I bought a car, drove myself to Hollywood and the beginning of a pretty interesting life.

My days @ Record Plant started as a runner, getting food & coffee, washing toilets, throwing out the trash... yup... something I never imagined I'd do right out of college. But that later landed me many opportunities to work with some of the World's Top Producers, listen to some of the World's Top Artists, seeing some of the World's Top Engineers working their magic, hanging out with some of the Sexiest Girls, and witnessing some of the craziest / wildest moments of my life !

It's a part of me that I'll hold dear to my heart as that experience DID completely change me as a person. Sometimes I really miss that life... friends and people I worked with. I'd never become who I am today without going thru that... I mean... I AM a small town boy from Kluang for Pete's sake.

Thanks Rose for giving me the chance! And to everyone there who has once be a teacher and friend, Thanks!
